The Renowned Musician Encourages Support to Get Palestinian Solidarity Track to UK Christmas No 1.
A campaign is aiming to send a Palestinian lullaby to the peak of the festive singles chart. The effort seeks to deliver assistance to communities in Gaza while also highlighting Palestinian culture and creativity.
A Possibility for Solidarity and an "Chart Upset"
Renowned figure Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the release called 'Lullaby' represents a moment to support Palestinians over the Christmas period. He remarked the potential for an surprise number one.
“It would be incredible if that occurred, yes,” he said. “I’m not gonna be completely disappointed if it doesn't manage to, festive releases are a thing unto themselves.”
Powerful Theme of Dignity and Freedom
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the adaptation of a cultural piece called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the track's resilient spirit.
“It occupies a very special place for a lot of people,” Barghouti said. “It’s basically saying that I would rather die in dignity than exist without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we want to live a life of dignity that we deserve as Palestinians.”
Recording Origins and Contributing Musicians
The song was recorded after a large-scale benefit event held in September. Originally intended to be captured during the live event, the performance was shelved during the concert due to scheduling overruns.
The notable list of artists appearing on Lullaby includes a selection of acclaimed names from the scene. All took part in the earlier concert, which reportedly raised a considerable total for relief efforts.
Final Touches and Availability
Lullaby was brought to life by a team of talented individuals. The single blends a fusion of the traditional Arabic lyrics with new English lyrics.
The group managing the project have emphasized that their goal is to generate maximum funds for a dedicated fund. These resources will be distributed to projects in Palestine through an established charity.
“There is no a fixed goal,” a spokesperson explained. “We aim for the maximum achievable. Obviously, the more the merrier. It all goes out to Gaza.”
The reality in the area was described as its widespread damage, with a vast majority of buildings described as levelled or seriously harmed.
“In that context, a couple of million won't make a massive dent. But I think the significant factor is first of all spreading knowledge of this plight and proving there’s another side to the story.”
The single 'Lullaby' is scheduled for release at the end of the week. Additionally, a video of the charity concert will be made available for streaming on a digital service from the 19th of December.
